Manchester City will face bitter rivals Manchester United at Wembley this weekend to kick off the new English domestic season.
The Premier League champions come up against the FA Cup winners in the Community Shield aiming to win the campaign’s first piece of silverware.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be aiming to win their fifth straight title this term while Erik ten Hag won’t have much of a challenge when trying to have a better year than last.
They meet in a game that is seen by some as a ‘glorified friendly’, but it gives a solid indication of how good a team can be ahead of the season.
Man City would argue against that though, having won the last three Premier League titles despite three straight Community Shield losses.

Community Shield: Team news
Erling Haaland had some of his minutes managed in pre-season due to ‘niggles’, but he’s expected to start here.
Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker have all only just returned to training and this clash could come too soon.
It means Kalvin Phillips may make a rare start while youngsters Oscar Bobb and James McAtee are likely to get some game time.
Stefan Ortega is expected to start in goal as he is City’s designated cup goalkeeper.
For Man United, £52million summer signing Leny Yoro has been ruled out for a few months after surgery on his foot.
Rasmus Hojlund is also sidelined while Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered a knock in pre-season last time out.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are doubts while Jonny Evans will hope to have recovered from illness in time.
Mason Mount should start and Amad Diallo may have played himself into Ten Hag’s starting line-up this season.
Community Shield: What has been said?
Guardiola has discussed the mentality of his squad ahead of the Community Shield this weekend.
The Man City boss said: “It’s important, it’s a final against United.
“But part of that is to try to refine ourselves step by step.
“Our break for most of the players and the young players, how they behave on a bigger stage, [this is] a good game.
“We will go for it.”
Community Shield: How did last year’s game go?
Arsenal won the Community Shield last season after beating Man City on penalties.
The rivals didn’t know it yet, but they would be clashing once again for the Premier League title following the game.
And it was the Gunners who got the first laugh as they scored all four of their spot-kicks to sink Guardiola’s side.
Mikel Arteta’s men held City to a goalless draw in normal time but went behind in extra-time after now-Chelsea star Cole Palmer scored the opener.
However, Leandro Trossard equalised in the 100th-minute to send the game all the way.
Aaron Ramsdale, who was dropped for David Raya during the following season, saved from Rodri after Kevin De Bruyne hit the bar from the spot.
Fabio Vieira would then score to win it for Arsenal and they were hoping that this would be the first of multiple pieces of silverware…
But it turned out to be their only trophy as they fell short in the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League.
