Lennox Lewis predicted Daniel Dubois would catch Anthony Joshua early after analysing his defence.
Dubois dropped Joshua in the opening round, a shot from which he failed to fully recover, and he was eventually stopped by a devastating KO in the fifth stanza at Wembley Stadium.
There was a whole host of huge names ringside including former undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis, who broke down the clash.
And boxing journalist and broadcaster Steve Bunce has revealed Lewis had seen Joshua’s chin too high up, just five seconds into the clash.
“AJ started the fight with his hands very low and his chin very high, noticeably high,” Bunce said on his BBC podcast.
“I was sat with Lennox Lewis and Lennox said after four of five seconds, ‘What’s his chin doing there?’ And that was before a punch had been thrown.”
It was a great piece of analysis and it was precisely the reason that Joshua received a huge right hand which laid him out on the canvas.
The shot even disfigured his face and left him on a real uphill road to recovery, and ultimately saw Dubois take control.
Lewis went on to analyse Joshua’s performance after the final bell, admitting he was disappointed with his defensive skills.
“One guy showed up for the fight, the other guy didn’t,” he added after the result was announced.
“I was disappointed because I thought the other guy [Joshua] was looking good [before the fight] in the sense he was focused, he was quiet, he was thinking about the fight.
“But when he got in there, his stance was wrong because his chin was up. He was open for that right hand.
“You can’t be chin up against a good puncher. Daniel Dubois is a puncher, and he proved it tonight.
“Every shot he hit, Joshua went down. Daniel Dubois did the work to get there, he deserves to be the heavyweight champion of the world. He performed well.”
Joshua never really recovered after the first flush shot, but battled on until he was flattened for a final time in the fifth round.
It was a big blow for the former two-time champion, who has even faced calls to retire from senior figures in the boxing world.
He has since released a statement confirming he will not hang up his gloves and has more to give in the ring.
Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn have since suggested they are open to making a rematch, with one fight left on AJ’s deal with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh.
A fight with Fury could still surprisingly be on the cards, but his future could well be clarified after the ‘Gypsy King’ rematches Oleksandr Usyk on December 21.
