Kempton’s Saturday tips
- SIRENIA STAKES
2.00: Brian 13/2 Each-way - SEPTEMBER STAKES
2.35: Hamish 11/4 - LONDON MILE SERIES FINAL
3.15: Kilt 7/2 - LONDON SPRINT SERIES FINAL
4.20: Intervention 11/1 Each-way
Brian
Symbol Of Strength has been given a huge rating after placing third in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York last month.
The colt trained by Adrian Paul Keatley was as high as 80/1 but still came out with a placed effort.
He’s up to 107 just 3lb off of the winner Cool Hoof Luke and 1lb off of 2nd placed Shadow Of Light.
Far superior to his rivals but all have to be taken with consideration on the all-weather, where some horses just either relish or dislike the artificial surface.
Brian won well last time out back to 6f and also has form behind Cool Hoof Luke on the all-weather and has to be the ideal each-way choice here.
Hamish
Hamish will be a popular runner but he did struggled at Newmarket last time out back in July, though clearly off since he’s been waited with until he’s back to his usual self.
He’s been around about this mark for quite some time despite the odd defeat recently.
Held up at the back of the field last time, didn’t make much or any impression really when it was needed to come home like he is used to.
It was suggested he might have needed softer ground than the firmer side of the good to soft.
He was a close second to Luxembourg at Epsom in May and won narrowly at Newbury to Al Qareem.
Back on the all-weather is interesting too as he’s 1-2, but not been seen on the artificial surface since 2021, both times over course and distance.
Kalpana will get a stone from Hamish as she’s a three-year-old and a filly.
Despite that she will need a big performance to beat Hamish who could be back to his best, having a rare off day last time out.
Kilt
Hard to rule out a few in this contest.
Whitcombe Rockstar has won four times in his last five runs, including over course and distance when a comfortable winner under Josephine Gordon, who is back on board again.
Kilt is the clear favourite now having previously been around a 6/1 shot now into 7/2.
The Kingman gelding is just three-years-old so gets that vital weight allowance, but it seems the overall consensus is that he should make the most of even this new mark of 92.
His latest outing at Haydock was his first race since being gelded and should only improve further.
Intervention
The Sprint Series Final is an interesting match-up, with 12 runners over the 6f course and just 12lb between the top-rated horse Ferrous and the lowest weighted Drama and Habooba.
All but four runners; Radio Goo Goo, Batal Dubai, Heathcliff and Intervention have won over course & distance before.
Ferrous beat Intervention by well over two lengths over course and distance in April, but hasn’t quite backed that up on the turf so is now just 5lb higher making him the clear favourite.
Desert Cop could be down to a nice enough mark but hasn’t really been effective in his last four appearances after winning at Newmarket.
Azure Angel was also behind Ferrous in that April contest, but nearly eight lengths away, she will really need to make the most of that wind op and drop in the weights to challenge.
Intervention has been busy this year, since his second behind Ferrous has ran nine times, all defeats and only two placed efforts and as a result has dropped 8lb.
So now the weights are much more in his favour to Ferrous, he can appeal if bouncing back to some semblance of form.
Instead of carrying more than Ferrous as he did in April here, he will now be given 11lb.
Saffie Osborne always seems to do well at Kempton and will be on board the more unexposed gelding of the lot, Heathcliff.
He’s three-years-old but has won three of his last four starts.
Winning at Kempton and Newcastle most recently, upped a total of 9lb in those two runs alone.
He actually won just half a length ahead of Osborne’s Thunder Blue last time out, in the Racing League.
Overall, I’m hoping given this seems to be Intervention’s favoured trip, and he’s been given a couple of weeks since his last race, this is more than feasible given he started off this calendar year 7lb higher.
