Jurgen Klopp had a room of journalists laughing with a cheeky comment in his final press conference as Liverpool manager.
The German leaves Merseyside a legend having guided Liverpool to huge success including the club’s sixth Champions League triumph as well as a first ever Premier League crown and first league title in 30 years.
The end of this term wasn’t as gripping as has been in previous seasons with Liverpool already out of the title race going into the final day, however, it was very much a day of celebration as all those in attendance at their win over Wolves showed their appreciation for all the great work Klopp did.
He was quick to send all his thank yous to those who he worked with, as well as those he was up against as he labelled Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as the world’s best manager with City sealing an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League crown.
And there were even good relations with what was often his nemesis during his nine-year stay with the club – the media.
Klopp has had many a run-in with the press as Liverpool boss but there were no such issues on Sunday as he even took a picture of all the journalists in attendance at the press conference.
Although his reasoning for taking the picture may not have been in the interests of the journalists, nevertheless his comment went down a hit.
As he picked up his phone to take the picture, he said to some laughter: “I don’t think I will, but if I miss you…”
Klopp’s final match in charge of Liverpool was as routine a win as it gets with the Reds running out 2-0 winners over Wolves.
After Nelson Semedo was sent off for a late challenge on Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool took full control of proceedings and they then went in front through Mac Allister’s glancing header on 34 minutes.
Jarell Quansah scrambled in Liverpool’s second on 40 minutes with Mohamed Salah having a number of opportunities, while Luis Diaz managed to hit the bar from just six yards out in the second half.
The farewell ceremony after the match was far more memorable with Klopp getting Anfield to serenade his successor Arne Slot, the Dutchman who arrives from Feyenoord.
Klopp leaves Liverpool having won six major honours since taking the job in October 2015.
