The Dallas Cowboys are going “all in” by reuniting with Ezekiel Elliott.
The same Elliott that the Cowboys moved on from in a 2023 release, and who then ran for just 642 yards last season on a 4-13 New England Patriots team.
And the same Elliott who was on the receiving end of a brutal public shot by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in 2019.
“Zeke who?” said Jones, the last time that the former Dallas star was pushing for big money and being threatened by Tony Pollard for playing time.
Pollard is now a Tennessee Titan.
Elliott is set to return to Jerry World.
The 28-year-old running back has agreed to terms with the Cowboys on a new contract, according to multiple media reports.
It’s unclear what the specific details are for Elliott’s new contract.
What’s obvious to NFL and even diehard Cowboys fans is that Elliott’s best days appear to be behind him.
“He’s washed,” one fan tweeted.
“LOL,” a second fan wrote.
“All in, baby!!!” a third fan posted.
Elliott’s last play with the Cowboys became a social media highlight.
During a tough playoff loss to San Francisco in 2022, Dallas had Elliott line up at center and snap the ball to quarterback Dak Prescott in a shotgun formation.
Elliott was bowled over and the Cowboys lost 19-12.
Last year, Dallas parted ways with the three-time Pro Bowler, who galloped for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie.
In 2019, things got downright frosty between Elliott and Jones, when Pollard scored a preseason TD and Elliott was pushing for more money.
“Who? Zeke who?” Jones said. “We’re having some fun, not at your expense.”
At the time, Elliott’s agent told ESPN that the running back and his agents weren’t amused by the “Zeke who?” line and felt disrespected.
Jones didn’t back down.
“I’ve earned the right with Zeke to joke,” Jones said. “Period. I’ve earned it.
“Let me be real clear about it. I’ve earned that right to joke.”
Prescott and Elliott were once a dangerous combo for the Cowboys.
In 2024, Prescott is playing for a new contract, while Elliott is in his ninth year and a shell of his former self.
“Jerry Jones shining a washed Zeke as his main RB. Cowboys are cooked,” a fan tweeted.
“All in, baby,” a second fan posted.
Jones’ “all-in” comment at the start of the 2024 offseason continues to haunt Dallas’ uninspired last few months.
Re-signing Elliott will only increase the spotlight on Prescott, Jones and the Cowboys, who’ve gone 12-5 in three consecutive seasons but failed to make a dent in the playoffs.
Elliott has only eclipsed 1,000 yards once in the last four years.
His 3.5 yards-per-carry average in 2023 was a career low — and a yard less than in 2019, when Jones jokingly didn’t even know who Elliott was.
With Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys have serious talent.
They also have a ton of questions, more pressure than ever, and have brought Zeke back during a time when Prescott’s future in Dallas is highly uncertain.
“It’s sad, man, that you lose the way you do,” Parsons said in February. “Especially at home. Talking about how much we played at home, how much it stood for us to be at home, and to go out like that at home was completely embarrassing and unacceptable.”
