Jenson Button‘s ex-wife, model Jessica Michibata, has been arrested in Japan after police intercepted a drugs package addressed to her.
The 38-year-old mother of one lives in the USA, but was born in Japan and was staying at a hotel in Tokyo. There, the Metropolitan Police Department have detained her after customs officers allegedly found MDMA inside a parcel addressed to her when it arrived from overseas.
Reports in ‘The Japan Times’ suggest she was staying at the Tokyo hotel with an ‘acquaintance’. Little else is known about the incident yet, although Michibata‘s modelling agency have released a brief statement.
“We apologise to everyone for any concern the reports of Jessica Michibata, which belongs to our company, have caused,” reads the Revive statement.
“We are currently unable to contact Michibata directly and we are collecting information to confirm the facts.
“Since the incident is under investigation by the police, we will refrain from disclosing any further details.”
When did Michibata and Jenson Button split up?
Michibata and Button were together from 2008 to 2015 and were married in late 2014 before separating the following year on good terms.
F1 legend Button raced in the sport from 2000 to 2017, winning the championship in 2009. He won a total of 15 races and secured 50 podiums.
