“Who wouldn’t want to? Was the message that Jenni Hermoso used a few days ago on her Instagram profile and that has set off alarm bells with many hoping that this could signal a possible return to the Spanish national team.
The Pachuca striker shared a photograph of the new official World Cup ball on her social network and accompanied the image with the “who wouldn’t want to?” message.
This gesture comes just six months ahead of the Australia-New Zealand World Cup that would be the third participation for “La Roja” in their history. At the age of 32, the striker knows that it may be the last opportunity to represent Spain in a tournament of this high profile having already participated in Canada 2015 and in France 2019.
Hermoso was one of many players who decided to withdraw from the national team last September, with many players citing a poor working relationship with head coach Jorge Vilda as their decision to not play for the national team. As then captain, Hermoso had to face the media along with Irene Paredes and Patri Guijarro and explain their stance as they cited the “situation” within the national team was having a negative impact on their “emotional state” and their health.
Vilda remains as head coach and will be preparing a team to play in the forthcoming Cup of Nations when Spain will travel to Australia with the mini-tournament being staged from February 16-22 where they will play against Jamaica, Czech Republic and Australia.
There has been recent speculation that many of the players are thawing in their position and Hermoso’s Instagram message may signal this as the clock ticks down to the start of the 2023 World Cup.
