In a significant blow to India’s chances during the ongoing first Test against New Zealand, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant sustained a knee injury on Day 2, prompting the team to call upon Dhruv Jurel as his replacement.
The incident took place during New Zealand’s first innings when Pant was struck on the knee by a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja in the 38th over.

Pant, who had been struggling with knee issues previously, limped off the field after being visibly in pain. The medical staff attended to him immediately, but he was unable to continue and had to retire hurt. Prior to his injury, Pant was India’s top scorer in a disastrous innings, contributing 20 runs as the home team was bowled out for a mere 46 runs, their lowest total ever in Test cricket at home.

Pant was forced to retire hurt after receiving medical attention on the field. He hobbled off with the assistance of a support staff, visibly in pain.
