The Las Vegas Raiders face a tough road playing in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs.
That road has been made even tougher after new head coach Antonio Pierce announced that his squad has a specific set of rules for superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“We’ve got the Jordan Rules and we’ve got what I’m calling now, from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes Rules,” Pierce said on Maxx Crosby’s podcast. “You remember when Jordan was going through it with the Pistons, the Pistons used to whip his a**.”
While those strong words alienated some NFL fans, Pierce was able to get football supporters back on the good side thanks to footage of his first team meeting with the 2024 Raiders.
A passionate Pierce connected with the Raiders, who have some of the NFL’s best history but struggled in recent years and went 8-9 last season.
“The passion has to show up,” Pierce said. “If you don’t love this s***, shame on you. If you don’t love this, shame on you. Shame on you, man.
“We’re fortunate to be in these seats. We’re earning the right to keep going each and every day. So show that passion and love for the game and for being a Raider.”
As players intently started at Pierce, who was promoted from interim coach after Josh McDaniels was fired midseason, fans were also impressed by his teaching style.
“How can you not root for Pierce?” one fan tweeted.
“I hate the Raiders but this is decent,” a second fan posted.
“I would run through a wall for this man,” a third fan wrote.
“I love how he pointed out on himself to get better,” a fourth fan said. “It really feels like he’s the leader this team needs.”
Crosby was seen staring back at Pierce, who referenced the talented defender in his fiery speech.
Despite having Mahomes and the Chiefs in the same division, Pierce is trying to blend the Raiders’ old-school ways with a modern approach.
He’s clearly trying to get the best out of Las Vegas and fans are already impressed.
“Really hard not to root for this guy,” a fan tweeted.
“Not a Raiders fan, but you love to see it,” a second fan posted. “Finally seems like y’all are moving in the right direction. Glad AP was given a chance to succeed.”
Crosby previously went public with his love for Pierce as the team’s new head coach.
He also defended Pierce’s Mahomes Rules comments and said the Raiders are out to win in 2024.
“He’s got multiple MVPs and Super Bowls,” Crosby said. “At the end of the day, if we want to win, we’ve got to take him down. We’re not shy about that.
“He knows that every time I play him, every time I see him, I’m trying to ruin his day. That goes for everybody. People can take that whatever they want or whatever, but he knows I’m coming for him.
