The 2024 Open Championship takes place at Royal Troon with the stunning links course hosting the world’s top golfers from Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21.
Royal Troon’s Old Course in South Ayrshire, Scotland, has hosted golf’s oldest major a total of nine times since 1923, with the upcoming 152nd edition of The Open set to be its tenth.
Henrik Stenson — who out-duelled Phil Mickelson in an epic final round in 2016 — won the last time Troon held the Open.
The stunning venue is one of the most iconic courses on The Open rota and is modelled on the Old Course at St Andrews.
Royal Troon’s Old Course — famous for its ‘Postage Stamp’ par-3 8th hole — stages the Championship majors, but there is also the Portland course — further north and inland than the Old Course –and the Craigend course, which is a nine-hole par-3 layout.
How much does it cost to play at Royal Troon?
Royal Troon is famous for being one of the most expensive rounds out there.
According to its official website, a standard 18 hole green fee at Royal Troon’s Old Course – between April 1, 2025 and October 9, 2025 – will set you back £365.
If you’re a PGA member, that fee comes down to £285.
Visitors can also play a round on the Portland course – that’s priced at £125 per golfer or £95 for PGA members.
There’s also a day ticket available for £420 per golfer or £340 per PGA member.
The day ticket includes one round on the Old Course and one round on the Portland Course, so you can take in everything the famous Scottish links has to offer.
Tee times are notoriously limited at Royal Troon and prospective visiting players are encouraged to book their rounds well in advance.
Tee times are available Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, but unfortunately, not just anyone can play there.
Players have to produce a handicap certificate prior to booking.
Men must have a handicap of 20 or lower while women must hold a handicap index of 30 or under to enjoy the full Royal Troon experience.
An all-star field including the likes of four-time major winner Rory McIlroy, Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele, U.S. Open king Bryson DeChambeau and golf GOAT Tiger Woods will descend on the sea port town on the west coast of Scotland this week with one goal in mind: lifting the coveted Claret Jug.
Brian Harman is the current Open champion following his dominant win at Royal Liverpool Golf Club last year.
Play will get going at 7am on the opening two days and at 8:30am over the weekend.
talkSPORT 2 will have live commentary from Troon with Marcus Buckland, Sue Thearle, Ron Jones, Matt Adams and Rupert Bell. Our coverage starts at 7am.
