When the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004, coach John Tortorella – you might have heard of the guy – had a mantra that his team followed: Safe is death.
The Boston Bruins would be well-advised to keep that in mind for their Game 7 showdown with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, as well as the immortal words of Herm Edwards: “You play to win the game! Hello?”
After taking a 3-1 lead in the series, the Bruins have looked flat and uninspired, and with absolutely no level of urgency.
And it could cost them a second straight season in which they blow a 3-1 lead to lose a series, which would almost certainly lead to coach Jim Montgomery losing his job.
