Devin Haney has insisted any second meeting with Ryan Garcia will be on his terms.
Haney was knocked down three times by Garcia and beaten on their points in their huge super-lightweight showdown, but news broke that his rival had failed two pre-fight drugs tests.
Consequently, the fight result has been overturned with Haney’s record now clear, and Garcia subsequently banned from the sport for a year.
Naturally, ‘The Dream’ still wants revenge for the tainted clash and has insisted he will make his rival pay inside and outside of the ring.
He told the MMA Hour: “I would love my next fight to be against Ryan Garcia if everything is right if everything is inactive with the drug tests.
“But he’s got to do his suspension, and we got to figure everything out. Of course, I want to get mine back in blood. I’m that kind of a fighter.”
“The next fight [with Ryan Garcia] will be on my terms. We caught the guy cheating. So, wherever the fight is at, it’s going to be on my terms.
“I’m not fighting in weight classes anymore. I’m fighting any weight I choose. I love belts. Belts put you in history forever, but I did that already.
”For the s*** that he did, I want to make him pay for the s*** that he did in the ring, out the ring.”
Haney went on to add he intends to sue his rival after losing money following the event.
He added: “When you sign the contract, when he said he’s going to be clean going into the fight and I’m going to be clean, there ain’t going to be nothing in my system, there ain’t going to be nothing in his system, and he didn’t hold up his bargain.
“This whole situation has cost me money, I’ve lost money during this whole situation. He will pay for everything….”
Haney announced that he would take a break of his own on the back of news of Garcia’s ban.
He retained his WBC super-lightweight title despite the defeat, and was ordered to face Sandor Martin.
After purse bids produced just one offer from Top Rank, Haney decided to vacate his title after being left bemused by the financial reward on the table.
His future is now up in the air but a future sequel with Garcia appears to be the primary option on the table.
