Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen may have breached the terms of his contract with the Formula 1 team, based on some comments from a prominent member of his team.
Verstappen is undoubtedly the prized asset at Red Bull and indeed in F1, which is why legal measures have been taken to protect him during the season.
Within his lucrative 43 million pound a year contract, there is a ‘dangerous sports’ clause to prevent him from taking part in anything that could lead to a serious injury. It is believed that this includes skiing, but Verstappen may have been on the slopes between the Australian Grand Prix and the Japanese Grand Prix.
Verstappen hits the slopes
Red Bull boss Helmut Marko spoke to the press in Japan and mentioned that the 26-year-old world champion has been taking advantage of the wonderful snow in Japan to do a spot of skiing.
“In the meantime, Max was skiing in Japan in the most wonderful, best deep snow in the world,” Marko said.
When quizzed if Verstappen should indeed be skiing in the first place, Marko added: “I’ve already told you too much…”.
Verstappen has talked about avoiding certain sports in the past.
He said: “There is a risk in everything. I haven’t skied in five years because of the risk of breaking or twisting something with all the consequences that entails.
“And of course also in the knowledge that there are still years to come in which I have a great chance of becoming champion again and winning races.
“If you think about that, you automatically take fewer risks.”
