The 2024 Grand National is nearly upon us, which means that one lucky owner is set to pocket a significant sum of money this afternoon.
Not only is this race one of the most iconic, it is also extremely lucrative.
It’s a race that creates legendary horses and jockeys due to its prestige and history.
And as we prepare for the latest incarnation, the next set of heroes are waiting to be revealed.
Grand National 2024: Prize money
There will be a total of £1million up for grabs at this year’s Grand National.
The top ten will all claim a share of the prize pot, with the winner pocketing £561,300.
Second place gets £211,100, and third walks away with £105,500.
How much do the jockeys win?
Jockeys often only take a small percentage of any prize pot, which is between eight and nine per cent.
If they place, they also still take some of the earned money, but it’s usually only about 3.5 per cent.
There is also a standard fee for taking part and for jump races that is set at £164.74.
