Leicester are eyeing up an audacious swoop to appoint Graham Potter as their next manager, talkSPORT understands.
Potter has been out of work since April 2023 after being sacked by Chelsea just seven months after he joined from Brighton.
Leicester are searching for a new boss to replace Enzo Maresca, who has made the move to Stamford Bridge after just one year with the Midlands outfit.
And Potter has emerged as a contender for the Foxes, with director Jon Rudkin pushing hard to agree terms with the 49-year-old.
It is believed that Leicester have spoken with Potter’s long-time agent John Morris.
However, it is understood that they may not have the necessary funds to bring Potter to the King Power Stadium this summer.
Potter previously rejected a move to Dutch giants Ajax and has been seen as a ‘real contender’ for the Manchester United job.
He and United’s incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth worked together successfully at Brighton.
Potter’s inner circle believe he is saving himself for a big gig and the 49-year-old has also been suggested as a possible successor to Gareth Southgate if the England manager departs after Euro 2024.
A return to Brighton was recently ruled out as the Seagulls search for Roberto De Zerbi’s replacement, with 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler on their shortlist.
A move to Leicester would also present Potter with the opportunity to work in the Premier League again following their promotion.
They won the Championship title under Maresca to seal an instant return to the top-flight.
talkSPORT understands that Leicester have also held initial talks with former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper.
The club announced on Friday that club legend Jamie Vardy has signed a new one-year deal.
The Foxes also said they are bidding farewell to three senior players, most notably Marc Albrighton who leaves after a decade.
Kelechi Iheanacho and Dennis Praet are departing at the end of their contracts too, with Leicester in discussions with Wilfred Ndidi over his future.
