Aimeric
Glorious Stakes is the Group 3 to kick things off on the final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday.
Phantom Flight returned this season in July at Newbury, beating Al Aasy by a length, on his first run since being gelded.
They’ve both traded blows against each other in the last three runs over 1m2f but it’s been Al Aasy that’s got ahead twice before but that was pre-gelding to Phantom Flight.
However, the step up to 1m4f is interesting and the pair who’ve primarily been racing at 1m2f should suit the change.
Aimeric has been second to King Of Conquest in his last two races but was only a neck away at Newmarket after being nearly three lengths at Goodwood in June.
The Roger Varian-trained horse has been right up there in his last four appearances, each at 1m4f.
Only beaten by one horse, King Of Conquest, which sets the standard. That Godolphin horse was a nose second to Middle Earth at Newbury in May, yet Lion’s Pride beat that horse back in July 2023 comfortably at Kempton, but he does seem to thrive on the All-weather and is a risky punt here.
Leaving Aimeric the clear choice on his form.
Dancing In Paris
11/1 seems like a great price to take on this four-year-old gelding trained by Ian Williams.
He beat Tactician while carrying nearly a stone more, with that form working out well, considering it was his first run over 1m6f.
Upped to 2m at Newbury last time out, when also upped 4lb for that win at Ascot, he was three lengths off of Temporize, who appeared at Goodwood over 2m4f on Friday’s opener.
That’s great form stamina wise too and the Olympic Glory gelding has a real chance off this low weight.
He’s had a busy season but that could be capped off here unexposed over this distance, with good form at this course, reading 32.
Night Sparkle
Sumo Sam made virtually all in this race, the Langtry Stakes for fillies and mares, last year but as a result of that win has gone up 15lb in total and he faces a tough task reappearing for the first time after wind surgery in May.
He was struggling a bit in his last two runs and clearly something was wrong, he could be back better than ever but it still remains uncertain and a steep task to do this.
Melo Melo looks an interesting French Raider having gone a short neck behind Warm Heart in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp in September.
However, she was second and third so far this season and will also likely meet firm ground for the first time, which is a question mark, however, her pedigree suggest that might suit.
Night Sparkle looks overpriced though, trained by Andrew Balding, the former hurdler has great stamina.
She placed just two lengths off of Trueshan at Sandwon last time out and also a closer second to Term Of Endearment at York in May, that form suggests she’s better than her current mark and could finally get back to winning ways like she secured four in a row last year.
Jehangeer
The Kevin Ryan-trained gelding looks to have a lot of potential for improvement.
He’s got progression on the cards due to stepping up to 7f for the first time, which should be ideal.
While he’s also got plenty of potential improvement having been gelded and had a wind op before his latest run, which helped see him win at Thirsk nicely in early July.
Lmay
Group 2 third placed filly at Doncaster in September behind the improving Sumo Sam and then placed second as a 40/1 shot at Royal Ascot last time out.
Clearly improving and dropping down to 1m4f again is going to be interesting.
The filly by Frankel was given an honourable mention for Royal Ascot run, considering she has form behind some great fillies: Sumo Sam, Sea Theme, One Evening and Climate Friendly.
She should build on that here as the favourite in this listed race, despite coming up against some unexposed horses.
Thunder Run
Still might have more to offer off this mark as his form has worked out well, winning twice in a row after his debut second place.
This is another Night Of Thunder gelding and this three-year-old trained by Karl Burke has Daniel Tudhope on board again which makes a massive difference while other horse’s seemingly preferred jockeys are at Goodwood or Newmarket.
Thunder Run was nearly 13 lengths clear of 3rd placed Celestial Wave, and was even eased down towards the finish to beat Terre De Vega comfortably by nearly two lengths, carrying 12lb more than the 3rd placed filly.
