Lawrence Okolie is set to return to the ring and defend his WBO cruiserweight world title next Saturday, March 25, but British boxing fans do not think much of his opponent David Light.
The WBO mandatory challenger from New Zealand is 20-0 (12 KOs), but a clip of his training has now emerged and caused a strong negative reaction on social media.
Light earned his position as mandatory with a contentious split decision triumph over America’s Brandon Glanton in December.
He has since been working away preparing for Okolie.
Boxing fans on Twitter can be a slightly critical bunch at the best of times and have collectively slammed Light after video of him hitting the pads was posted by fight promoter BOXXER.
One wrote: “Looks terrible, if he fights anything like that he’s getting slept within seconds.”
And second put: “Lawrence first round KO.”
A third boxing fan said: “So stiff and his head don’t move, getting KO’d quickly.”
Another added: “Chin is right up in the air. Lack of head movement, footwork is non-existent. Four-round job this for Okolie.”
The opinions kept coming and none were positive for Light.
“How has he got to number one with the WBO carrying his chin that high?” a boxing fan asked.
And another put: “Looks like a very good white collar boxer to me.
While one quoted Tyson Fury as he branded Light a: “Big stiff idiot.”
The 31-year-old will no doubt be looking to silence his detractors next weekend.
