Georgia vs Portugal predictions
Portugal can put their feet up (metaphorically rather than literally) on matchday three. After victories over Czech Republic and Turkey in their two games to date, Roberto Martinez’s men are safely through to the round of 16 at Euro 2024.
What is more, they have also wrapped up top spot in Group F ahead of the final round of fixtures on Wednesday. The only thing yet to be determined is which team they will face in the last 16.
All we know at the time of writing is that it will be a third-place finisher from Group A, B or C, perhaps meaning Hungary, Denmark, Slovenia or Serbia.
All that is for another day. Despite already being through, Portugal will be keen to progress with maximum points.
They almost dropped two on matchday one. Czech Republic took a shock lead in that game, with Portugal getting back on level terms via a Robin Hranac own goal in the 69th minute.
The favourites continued to push for a second, but it only arrived in stoppage time when Sergio Conceicao broke Czech hearts in dramatic fashion.
Things were much more comfortable last time out, as Portugal barely broke sweat in a 3-0 defeat of Turkey in Dortmund. Granted, they were helped on their way by a comical own goal from Samet Akaydin, but Portugal were superior to their opponents in every department.
Martinez is likely to use this match as an opportunity to rest some of his key starters. Rafael Leao will serve a suspension, while Conceicao and Joao Palhina are both one booking away from a ban. Neither is likely to be risked.
Spain made 10 changes against Albania when they were in a similar position and it would not be a surprise if Martinez swept the deck in the same way.
That could be good news for Georgia, who must win this encounter to have any chance of extending their stay in Germany beyond the group stage.
Georgia vs Portugal betting tips
Georgia will be seeking their first ever victory at a major tournament when they take on Portugal on Wednesday.
Portugal to win and over 2.5 goals – 10/11 (Betfred)
Georgia have done themselves proud so far. The European Championship debutants went toe to toe with Turkey on matchday one and were in the game until deep into second-half injury time, when they shipped a third goal in a 3-1 loss.
Georgia then battled to a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic in their second contest at this competition. By getting one point on the board, they have already outperformed many people’s expectations for the summer.
Yet it is hard to see them avoiding defeat in this one, even if Portugal were to name a second-string XI.

Martinez has terrific strength in depth at his disposal and a fully-changed side could still feature the likes of Joao Neves, Danilo Pereira, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Goncalo Ramos and Diogo Jota.
Portugal will pack a punch in attack whoever plays on Wednesday and Georgia will have to be at their best defensively to keep the score down.
Willy Sagnol’s men have shown admirable intent so far and they will not just sit back and hope for the best here. This could be a pretty open game.

Portugal to score in both halves – Evens (bet365)
If the likes of Felix, Neto, Ramos and Jota are given the nod from the first whistle in Gelsenkirchen, each player will be determined to make an impression with the rest of the tournament in mind.
A strong display from any of the back-up attackers would give Martinez something to think about with regards to the round of 16 (and, Portugal will hope, beyond).
Georgia were more open against Turkey than they were against the Czechs, but given they need a win here they will have to take a few risks.
Portugal have the speed and quality in transition to cause Georgia real problems if they do overcommit.
Giorgi Mamardashvili has been one of the busiest goalkeepers at the Euros and he may end up picking the ball out of his net in both halves here.

Goncalo Ramos to score any time – 11/8 (Sky Bet)
Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to score at Euro 2024 and, for that reason, he will no doubt be keen to continue in the starting XI on Wednesday.
However, it would surely be more sensible to rest the 39-year-old ahead of the knockout stage.
Ramos would almost certainly deputise for Ronaldo if Martinez does decide to leave out Portugal’s long-time talisman.
The striker memorably scored a hat-trick against Switzerland at the last World Cup and he will hope to make a similar impact in this one.
Against this Georgia defence, Ramos can find the back of the net provided he is given enough minutes up top.
