Top amateurs can only feature in the tournament when they win one other top championship or win a PGA Tour competition after playing on their sponsor’s exemption. This prestigious tournament is also the only major event that doesn’t outright allow the top 50 golfers in the world. Top finishers in the PGA Professional Championship, which holds in late April, get to make the slots in the annual PGA tournament.

• Winners of the last three winners of the PGA Championship.
• Reigning Senior PGA Champion.
• The 70 top players in official money standings on the PGA Tour (from one week before the last edition till two weeks before the current year’s edition).
• The last edition’s low 15 ties and scorers.
• Any winners of PGA-approved or PGA co-sponsored tournaments since the last PGA Championship.
• Members of the last US and European Ryder Cup Teams, IF they’re among the Official top 100 golfers as of one week before the Championship begins.
• The United States PGA also has the right to invite extra players who don’t meet the above criteria.
• All players make a maximum of 156 players.
