- NEWBURY
4.10: Symbol Of Honour 15/8 (2pts) - KILLARNEY
3.40: Extrapolation 6/4 (1pt) - NEWMARKET
5.15: Adoon Valley 1/1 (1.5pts)
Symbol Of Honour
This Godolphin-trained horse was a respectable 6th place on debut at Newmarket in May, before improving much more with that experience to be a runaway winner at Lingfield on the turf when stepping up to 6f.
That form was franked when the Havana Grey colt was 6th in a bunched finish, just over a length off of the winner Rashabar in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He’s since been gelded and that was a promising run considering Charlie Appleby’s form at Royal Ascot wasn’t prominent this year, yet he still came just a length away from glory just behind stablemate and the proven Al Qudra.
The front four in the Coventry were all 40/1+ and were clearly massively overpriced, but it also means Symbol Of Honour has plenty of room for improvement, which might well be unlocked further being gelded.
Appleby has a few runners at Newmarket, where he always does well at historically with an incredible strike rate.
Yet it says a lot that Buick is chosen for this one ride for the yard over the odds-on Arabian Light and favourite Enchanted Life in their respective races.
Extrapolation
Flooring Porter will be a popular bet here, but with trainer Gavin Cromwell honest about his route this season, this is clearly just a run to give him a good couple of outings before the real test starts at the Kerry National.
He’s a high mark currently and 2m1f is not his optimal trip so it’s wise to steer clear.

Extrapolation has had three starts over fences now and clearly just got the hang of things on his last two starts at Ballinrobe.
Beating Mighty Tom comfortably by a few lengths and easily too.
His mark could still be on the low side to his potential and due to Flooring Porter’s mark, carries 22lb less than the hurdling star, which makes him a huge danger and a justified favourite.
Adoon Valley
Adoon Valley is a promising two-year-old filly by Too Darn Hot, owned by the successful owner especially this year, Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum.
He was second to Magic Mild over 6f here last week, a great debut considering that horse had the benefit of two runs before that, including in listed company.
Stellenbosch has form lines with the runners in the 3.00 at Newbury as she placed third ahead of Brightwalton (4/1) and Shostakova (11/1) but I’d prefer the favourite here suiting the step up in trip on paper.
That doesn’t work out that well here in comparison to Adoon Valley’s potential and next in the betting is debutant Miss Tonnerre, which is always difficult to win first time out.
