Manager Frank Lampard had two pieces of good news for Everton fans at his press conference on Friday.
The first was that striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could return to action for the Premier League visit of West Ham on Sunday.
Calvert-Lewin has missed the opening six matches of the season after suffering an injury on the eve of the opening game.
The England star has been the Toffees’ most important player in recent campaigns and the club have struggled for goals in his prolonged absence.
“We’ll see come Sunday whether he’s ready to start the game or not,” said Lampard.
“We have to be careful with him because he’s had a big injury but we’ll see.”
With Calvert-Lewin out, young star Anthony Gordon has stepped up to provide goals for Everton.
Lampard’s side are without a win this season but have drawn their last four games after opening with two defeats.
Gordon was the subject of two failed £50million bids from Chelsea over the summer and the 21-year-old has since proved his worth.
Now Lampard reveals Everton have turned their attention to securing the forward’s long-term future.
“The club are speaking with Anthony’s people to see if we can get the right solution there,” he added.
