The first international break of the 2024/25 season brings a new Nations League campaign in Europe, as 54 nations take part in the fourth edition of the tournament.
Our weekend acca focuses on five of the matches taking place on Friday and Saturday, including England’s clash with the Republic of Ireland.
A £10 wager on our three-leg acca would pay out £57.04, while the same stake on our five-leg version offers a potential return of £199.65.
Republic of Ireland vs England: England to win to nil (6/5)
England begin the post-Gareth Southgate era against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday. Lee Carsley is in charge on an interim basis, with the Under-21 manager likely to hold onto the position for the duration of the Nations League campaign.
Ireland also have a new leader after finally appointing a successor to Stephen Kenny in July. Heimir Hallgrimssoned mastermind Iceland’s famous victory over England at Euro 2016, but the new boss has admitted that Tuesday’s tussle with Greece is more important.
Irish fans will not necessarily agree with that sentiment, but it is difficult to see their side causing England many problems here.
Their best chance of a surprise result is by keeping things tight at the back, for Ireland have struggled going forward for a while now.
Evan Ferguson, the great hope for the future, has not played much over the last year, so Carsley’s team will fancy their chances of keeping a clean sheet.

Netherlands vs Bosnia-Herzegovina: Netherlands -1 handicap (4/7)
The Netherlands reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024 and they are now targeting a top-two finish in their Nations League group.
The tournament has undergone a slight revamp this time around, with a quarter-final stage inserted before the four-team Finals. That means finishing second in a League A group is enough to progress to the next stage.
Ronald Koeman’s side are strong favourites to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina, who won promotion from League B last term, in their opening encounter.
Bosnia were poor in qualification for Euro 2024, finishing second-bottom of their group behind the likes of Luxembourg and Iceland.
They were too open defensively throughout that campaign and will struggle to keep the goals out against an attack-minded Netherlands side. The hosts should win this one by at least a two-goal margin.

France vs Italy: France to win (13/20)
France fell short at the European Championship, losing 2-1 to Spain in the semis. Nevertheless, they are the bookies’ favourites to lift the Nations League trophy for a second time, with the Finals scheduled for June.
France are in a tricky group on paper, with Italy and Belgium among their opponents, but this is not a vintage Azzurri side.
We saw that in the summer, when Luciano Spalletti’s men scraped through to the last 16 before being soundly beaten by Switzerland.
Spalletti is a good manager but he has his work cut out in restoring Italy to their former glories. Having said that, a top-two finish in this group should be possible, but this represents a difficult start to the new campaign.
France have incredible strength in depth, so a handful of injuries should not make too much difference at the Parc des Princes this weekend.
⚽ Tip France to win at 13/20 with bet365 ⚽
Germany vs Hungary: Germany to score in both halves (10/11)
Germany may have been eliminated from Euro 2024 at the quarter-final stage, but they exited their home tournament with their heads held high.
Having been in disarray 12 months prior, Julian Nagelsmann managed to produce one of the most impressive teams at the competition. Germany would surely have gone further had they met anyone other than Spain in the last eight.
Along the way the Nationalelf defeated a Hungary team that failed to live up to expectations in the summer, bowing out in the group phase.
With home advantage to call upon once more, Germany should prove too strong for opponents that did not find the right balance at the Euros.
Naglesmann’s front–footed team should score either side of half-time on matchday one.
⚽ Select Germany to score in both halves at 10/11 with bet365 ⚽
Wales vs Turkey: Both teams to score (5/6)
Craig Bellamy will kick-start his tenure as Wales manager with a home game against Turkey. This is a transitional period for the Dragons, who lost to Poland in a Euro 2024 qualification play-off.
With Gareth Bale retired and Aaron Ramsey past his best, the likes of Brennan Johnson, Harry Wilson and Ethan Ampadu are set to become more important figures going forward.
Turkey reached the last eight of Euro 2024 in an impressive showing which saw them play an attractive and entertaining brand of football.
We should expect more of the same from Vincenzo Montella’s men in the Nations League, with Turkey targeting promotion to League A.
Wales could be in for a tough evening against an opposition outfit full of confidence, but we still expect the hosts to find the back of the net in Cardiff.
⚽ Go for both teams to score at 5/6 with bet365 ⚽
