The second day of the PGA Championship had just about everything and even ended with a fan splashing into a lake to retrieve a player’s club.
It was an incredibly eventful and somber day at Valhalla Golf Club on Friday.
The second round of the major was delayed following the shocking news that a vendor worker had been fatally killed outside the course.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler then got caught up in a separate incident and was arrested by police following a huge misunderstanding as he attempted to get onto property.
Scheffler was booked at Louisville Police Station before being released and going on to shoot an remarkable five-under 66.
Besides that, there was, of course, the rest of action of the 106th PGA Championship going on with Collin Morikawa producing a stunning display to cut leader Xander Schauffele’s advantage to just one.
But after a long and dramatic day reached its end, more late mayhem would follow.
Canada’s Adam Hadwin shot an opening 68 to start this week off well before carding a second round 72 to head into the weekend at two-under, ten off the lead.
Starting from the tenth on Friday, Hadwin started well before things unravelled down the stretch.
After bogeying the long sixth hole, he found the water at the par-5 seventh and his club paid the price, being hurled into the drink.
But, as if to encapsulate the chaos of Friday’s events, a fan then stripped down to just his underwear (keeping his socks on for some reason) and dived into the hazard to retrieve the club.
Hadwin said post-round: “I didn’t finish as strongly as I would have liked. It really put a sour taste on what could have been a pretty decent round.
“Bogeying seven for the second day in a row really gets to you.”
Jessica Hadwin, Adam’s wife, reposted the hilarious video on social media.
She said she was excited for ‘a chill little kid free weekend’ before being stunned by the actions of her husband and his clearing adoring fan.
Hadwin’s 72 was enough to make the weekend’s action which was due to start at 9am local time in Kentucky, but has since been pushed back due to fog.
