Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford have reportedly agreed terms to fight with an undisputed welterweight title fight set for November.
The contracts still need to be signed and lawyers are working on the legal language ahead of the huge glamour bout, report ESPN.
But both Crawford – third in Ring magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings – and no.4-ranked Spence, have agreed to terms with the deal thought to include a rematch clause for the loser to exercise and, if triggered, the winner will earn the majority of revenue for the second fight.
A date of 19 November, in Las Vegas, has been pencilled in with the news coming in a week that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua agreed to a fight in December.
The undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO welterweight title fight, though, is one of the best fights than can be made in boxing and many hardcore fans thought they’d never it, with the undefeated Crawford (38-0) and Spence (28-0) circling each other for years.
However, since moving up to welterweight in 2018, Crawford has won the WBO title and has been on a collision course with Spence.
Spence won his first belt – the IBF – in 2017 and insisted he would claim the WBA and WBC straps before taking on Crawford.
Spence beat Shawn Porter to claim the WBC belt in 2019 and stopped Yordenis Ugas in April for the WBA title.
The first time we got a sniff that a fight could be finally be made this year was in July when ESPN’s Mike Coppinger said November was possible, explaining there were ‘no real obstacles’ in the way.
Crawford has previously won a world title at lightweight and unified all four belts as undisputed champion at super-lightweight.
He has not fought since beating Shawn Porter in 2021, becoming the first man to do stop him, with Spence outpointing him.
After this fight, Crawford became a free agent, putting him in prime position to pursue the Spence bout.
In May, Crawford himself admitted he was confident the fight would be made this year.
“I’m excited about it, man, I just can’t wait until the contract gets signed and I get to go to training camp.
“Just picturing myself walking down that aisle to put on a great show.
“Because I know me. And I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life – to show everybody that doubts me who Terence Crawford is.
“It’s right there, it’s right there.”
