Gareth Southgate has reportedly named Brighton’s Danny Welbeck and Lewis Dunk in his provisional 55-man World Cup squad.
And it has been claimed that Newcastle’s in-form striker Callum Wilson and Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze have also been included for the trip to Qatar.
Three Lions boss Southgate will confirm his official 26-man squad for the 2022 tournament next week.
And a host of Premier League stars are in contention to feature in Qatar, with The Athletic stating Welbeck and Dunk are under consideration.
Former Arsenal striker Welbeck has been capped on 42 occasions, but hasn’t represented England since 2018.
As for Dunk, his solitary cap came in the 3-0 friendly victory over America four years ago at Wembley.
The news outlet has also revealed that Wilson is in the provisional squad as a result of his stunning form having scored six Premier League goals in nine matches this term.
In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT, Wilson spoke of his ambition to be Harry Kane’s back-up at the World Cup.
Meanwhile the Daily Mail have said that Eze, who is also eligible to represent Nigeria, has made England‘s squad.
Eze has appeared for both England’s U20s and U21s, but is yet to make his debut for the senior side.
He was named in Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2020, but was forced to pull out after suffering an injury in training.
Along with Eze, Leicester playmaker James Maddison is also one of the 55 players that could be on the plane to Qatar.
And they have declared that Arsenal’s versatile defender Ben White and Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez could benefit from the potential absences of Kyle Walker and Reece James.
Question marks still remain as to whether Kalvin Phillips will make the 26-man squad.
The 26-year-old, who joined Manchester City from Leeds in the summer, is currently recovering from shoulder surgery.
