England will hope to seal top spot in Group C next week when they take on Slovenia in Cologne, and its live on talkSPORT!
The Three Lions are undefeated after two matches so far but have been far from their best.
Gareth Southgate’s side beat a poor Serbia team 1-0 in the opening game before being held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark.
The performance against the Danes was far below expectations, with several Three Lions players struggling to hit their top levels.
However, should England beat Slovenia, they will finish top of the group.
But any other result would open up a chance for the other three teams to pip England.

- This will be England and Slovenia’s second encounter at a major tournament; England won 1-0 in the group stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
- Slovenia have won none of their six matches against England, in all competitions (D1 L5). Greece and fellow Group C side Denmark are the only opponents they have faced on more occasions (7) without ever winning a single match.
- England are looking to go through a fourth consecutive UEFA EURO group stage unbeaten, having done so at 2012, 2016 and 2020. They’ve won on MD3 at three of their last four European Championship tournaments (D1) since losing 3-2 to Romania at EURO 2000 under Kevin Keegan.
England vs Slovenia: Team news and latest squads
The Three Lions had hoped that Luke Shaw would be available to play some part after missing the first two group games.
However, he’s still not in full team training and has been working individually, suggesting he most likely will not make it.
Elsewhere, we could see the end of Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, with Conor Gallagher the favourite to replace him.
Elsewhere, Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer will hope to be involved in some way after playing no minutes.
Meanwhile, Slovenia have no injury concerns from their 1-1 draw with Serbia, and after a strong performance, they could elect to name an unchanged side.

- Slovenia have played more matches without winning at the UEFA EURO than any other nation, drawing four and losing one of their five games. Indeed, they have never beaten a European nation at a major tournament, also losing both games at the World Cup in 2002 against Spain and 2010 vs England.
- England have won 34 of their last 37 matches in which they have scored the first goal (D3), although two of their failures to do so have come across the last two UEFA EURO tournaments – the 2020 final vs Italy (1-1) and on MD2 this year against Denmark (1-1).
- Slovenia are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions (W4 D4), only enjoying a longer unbeaten run once in their history (9 games between September 2020 and March 2021).
England vs Slovenia: What has been said?
Unsurprisingly, England have come under a lot of criticism for their performance against Denmark.
Former France and Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit didn’t hold back.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I was bored.
“The first game, sometimes it’s difficult to enter a big competition, but the second game is less so.
“I didn’t understand what was going on on the pitch. I think Southgate has a big responsibility for that. When I watched the game, I had no idea what the plan was. I had no idea what they wanted to do with and without the ball. Tactically, the balance is not right.
“It’s mental and physical. Some players look tired, but in terms of mental strength, I thought that England feared the opponent, just like in the first game.
“They went into their own defence all the time and they were unable to play when they got back the ball. They showed fear. I’ve never seen that with English players before.
“I was very surprised, very disappointed and very bored to watch so I can imagine it was boring for the players to play that game.”
- England have faced five more shots than they’ve attempted at EURO 2024 (17 shots, 22 faced). They have failed to have more shots than their opponents in five of their last seven EURO group stages (1992, 2000, 2004, 2012, 2020), something hasn’t happened at any of their last seven World Cup group stage appearances between 1998 and 2022.
- England are averaging 8.9 shots per game at the UEFA EURO under Gareth Southgate (80 in 9 games). Going into MD3, that is the lowest shots per game any nation has had under a manager to take charge of them in more than five matches at the European Championship on record (since 1980).
- Petar Stojanovic won possession 11 times for Slovenia in their MD2 game against Serbia – in a major tournament game, the only Slovenian player to win possession more was Ales Ceh at EURO 2000 against Spain (14).
- Harry Kane has scored five goals in his last six UEFA EURO appearances, with only Wayne Rooney (6) and Alan Shearer (7) scoring more EURO goals for England. Kane has only managed two touches in the opposition box at EURO 2024, however, the same total as both Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
