Real Madrid’s new signing Endrick has revealed his two childhood heroes – and it’s not the duo you would expect.
The Brazilian joined Los Blancos from Palmeiras this summer, upon turning 18, for an undisclosed fee.
He was unveiled to fans at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of last month with a contract until 2030.
Now, he’s told supporters a little bit more about himself – and that includes naming his icons.
When asked in Spanish who his idols were as a child in an interview, Endrick replied: “Cristiano [Ronaldo], Bobby Charlton.”
There is no need to question whether Sir Bobby Charlton is worthy of being Endrick’s hero, of course.
He won the 1966 World Cup with England, the year he won the Ballon d’Or.
Charlton, who passed away last October, spent a majority of his career at Manchester United.
He has the second-highest goal tally of any Red Devils player in the club’s history, netting 234.
Charlton comes second behind ex-captain Wayne Rooney’s 253 goals – but given Endrick was born long after Charlton’s career, it shows he must really know his football history.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo – now at Al Nassr and well in the twilight years of his career – also starred for Man United across two spells.
He won three Premier League titles with the club amongst other accolades.
The 39-year-old has also scooped up five-Ballons d’Or in his career.
Endrick most recently played against Barcelona in the 2-1 pre-season friendly defeat to their El Clasico rivals.
He signed for Los Blancos in a pre-agreement in 2022 after impressing in Serie A in Brazil.
Endrick made 82 appearances for Palmeiras, netting 21 goals and bagging four assists.
