Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has taken his first knock as an MMA fighter.
The WWE legend has been using social media to keep fans updated as he films his latest movie, ‘The Smashing Machine’, which will be released at some point in 2025.
Johnson is currently filming scenes as legendary UFC fighter Mark Kerr, who struggled with an addiction to painkillers at the height of his combat sports career.
Naturally, The Rock has been learning some MMA moves and living the life of a fighter.
On Tuesday, the 52-year-old took to Instagram to show off a nasty injury he suffered while playing the man who scored four first-round stoppage wins at UFC 14 and UFC 15 in 1997.
Johnson said: “As you guys know, I’m filming a movie called ‘The Smashing Machine’.
“Anytime your film is called ‘The Smashing Machine’, you’re kind of going to get smashed up.”
The Rock then pointed out his badly swollen elbow and added: “Look at that sucker right there. It looks like I’ve got a cantaloupe at the bottom of my elbow.
“I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes. There might be some soft tissue damage in there. That’s a lot of fluid, I’ve got to get it out of there first before I get any kind of MRI.
“But the pain feels pretty good. All good. It is what it is until it isn’t.”
Johnson invited his fans to share advice on his injury in the comment section before taking a shot of tequila and jokingly claiming it is the ‘best painkiller’.
UFC legend Jon Jones was one of the 253,000 people who liked the post.
Conor McGregor told The Rock to try TIDL, an advanced pain relief spray that the Irishman credits with helping him return to full fitness following his leg break in July 2021.
The MMA superstar’s comment earned more likes than an orthopaedic surgeon, who diagnosed Johnson’s condition and gave him advice.
“Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon here,” Dr. Nick Pappas wrote.
“It looks like you have olecranon bursitis. I see it all the time in my practice. Best thing to do initially is compressive wraps, ice, and anti-inflammatories. I would avoid having it drained because it tends to come right back and increases your chances of infection.
“It’ll take a few weeks to go away but it should resolve… unless you keep re-aggravating it with direct trauma to the area.
At the end of his video, Johnson claimed to be heading to the gym.
It seems he won’t give himself any time to recover, and could risk prolonging his pain by continuing to film scenes as Kerr.
