Zeke Elliott is back in Dallas and the Cowboys could not be happier to have him back.
Head coach Mike McCarthy did manage to make an awkward butt-slapping joke in his press conference as he was asked what it was like to have the running back in the building.
The 28-year-old was drafted in the first round by the Cowboys in 2016 and had several productive seasons.
His rookie year saw him amass more than 1600 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Elliott was released by the Cowboys in 2023 and he signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots.
He left the AFC East to head back to the NFC to re-join his old team.
Both the Cowboys and Elliott are delighted to be reunited.
Speaking of Zeke’s return, head coach McCarthy said: “He definitely puts you on guard. He’s an old school guy. He’ll go up and smack a 60-year-old man in the ass and it hurts.
“It’s those kinds of things that you just enjoy him — not that I enjoy getting smacked in the ass – but you enjoy his personality.”
He was also questioned on what sort of role the running back will have and McCarthy confirmed it will be a committee.
Elliott had a heavy workload in his early NFL career with the Cowboys.
“I don’t think that’s fair,” McCarthy said. “The guy carried the ball more than anybody in the history of football in the first couple years. That’s not going to be his role.
“We’re running back by committee, but I think he’ll definitely play at the level that he’s played, I know, in my time here. I anticipate that. I don’t see any drop off in the way he moves.”
