Despite plenty of criticism in other matches, Euro 2024 security was at its best protecting Cristiano Ronaldo.
An individual was seen flying down from the stands after Portugal’s shock 2-0 defeat to Georgia and it appeared they were trying to kick the Al Nassr forward.
Thankfully, one bibbed UEFA employee quickly sniffed out the danger, sprung from behind Ronaldo to in front of him, and stopped his path towards the fan while deflecting the spectator away.
Ronaldo simply raised his hands in shock, and it’s hard not to have sympathy for the former Real Madrid and Manchester United man.
In Portugal’s previous match, a 3-0 win over Turkey, a total of six different supporters made their way onto the pitch, with the majority heading straight for Ronaldo.
The 39-year-old was happy to humour one young fan, but things quickly turned frustrating as more and more disrupted the match.

Following the Turkey game UEFA released a statement saying they would bring in additional measures to ward off pitch invaders, although they weren’t specific due to security concerns.
“Safety and security in the stadium, on the pitch and at team facilities are the ultimate priority for UEFA, DFB and EURO 2024 GmbH,” they wrote.
“To this end, additional safety measures will be deployed in the stadiums to further meet the requirements of the tournament, and to prevent such incidents.
“For reasons of security, we cannot comment further on specific measures.
“As a reminder, any incursion onto the pitch constitutes a breach of the stadium rules and will result in expulsion from the stadium, a ban from all tournament matches and the filing of a formal criminal complaint for trespass.”
Despite Ronaldo’s heart likely skipping a beat as he headed for the changing room, he was still decent enough to make an opponent’s dreams come true.
Pre-match Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a boyhood Real Madrid fan, said his dream would be to leave the game with Ronaldo’s shirt.
The Napoli winger went on to score the game’s opener in the second minute, and then his wish came true post-match as he posed in Ronaldo’s no.7, writing the word ‘dreams’ on Instagram next to the shirt and his Man of the Match award.
The result meant that Georgia finished third in Group F, qualifying for the last 16 at their first-ever major tournament.
Portugal, who topped the group ahead of Turkey, will face Slovenia in Frankfurt on July 1.
