Guyana Amazon Warriors showcased an outstanding all-round performance to secure a commanding six-wicket win over St Lucia Kings in Match 10 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. The match, held at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, saw the Warriors completely outplay the Kings in both batting and bowling.
St Lucia Kings falter with the bat
The Kings, after being put into bat, struggled to get going and were bundled out for a meager 100 runs in just 14.3 overs. Matthew Forde was the lone bright spot, scoring 31 runs off 21 balls with two sixes and three boundaries. However, the rest of the batting order failed to provide any resistance, crumbling under the pressure of Warriors’ disciplined bowling attack.
Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie were the chief destroyers for Guyana, each claiming three wickets. Their crafty spin bowling kept the St Lucia batters in check, and with Keemo Paul chipping in with two vital wickets, the Kings found themselves unable to build any meaningful partnerships, ultimately folding for a paltry total.

Azam Khan’s spectacular catch dismisses Johnson Charles
One of the pivotal moments of the match was Pakistan’s Azam Khan taking a sensational catch to dismiss the dangerous Johnson Charles. The incident occurred during the sixth over of the St Lucia innings. Paul, who had been bowling with precision, delivered a full-length ball outside off stump. Charles, attempting to drive through the off side, ended up playing away from his body, producing a faint edge. Azam, stationed behind the stumps, displayed exceptional agility and reflexes, diving sharply to his right to complete a stunning catch. This catch not only removed a key player but also set the tone for the rest of the innings, as Warriors’ batting line-up quickly unraveled.

Guyana Amazon Warrior’s powerful response with the bat
Chasing a modest target, the Warriors made quick work of the Kings’ bowling attack. Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with a blistering knock of 47 runs off just 19 balls, hammering seven sixes in a show of raw power. Tim Robinson also contributed with a solid 33 off 20 balls, ensuring that Guyana reached the target with 10 overs to spare.
Despite the overall disappointing performance, Noor Ahmad was a standout for St Lucia Kings, delivering an impressive spell of bowling. He picked up 3 wickets for just 22 runs, putting in a lone effort to try and stem the flow of runs. Alzarri Joseph also managed to take a wicket, but their efforts were not enough to stop Guyana’s relentless march to victory.
