Djordje Petrovic has revealed his unusual nickname for Chelsea star Cole Palmer – ‘Beans’.
The 22-year-old enjoyed an incredible debut season at the Blues by scoring 25 goals and assisting another 15 in all competitions.
He has quickly become a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge and many have started to refer to him as ‘Cold’ Palmer.
The attacking midfielder even imitates this with his celebration, but Petrovic appears to have a very different nickname for him.
Speaking to the club, the goalkeeper said: “Cole is an amazing guy, always relaxed… maybe even more on the pitch than off it. He has had an amazing season and helped the team a lot.
“Sometimes we have lunch together and I have beetroot a lot, most times. So, Cole gave me the nickname Beetroot.
“I needed one for him and he eats a lot of beans, which I think is normal for English people, so he is now Beans.
“I know people call him Cold Palmer, which is a correct nickname for him, but for me he is Beans.”
Like Palmer, Petrovic joined Chelsea last summer and also made a good impression during his first season at the club.
The Serbia became the Blues’ no.1 goalkeeper amid Robert Sanchez’s injury and kept seven clean sheets in 31 appearances.
Petrovic most notably saved Matt Ritchie’s penalty against Newcastle in their Carabao Cup quarter-final shootout at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea went on to lose the final against Liverpool but were still able to finish sixth in the Premier League amid a rollercoaster season.
It’s handed the Blues qualification for the Europa Conference League and another chance to win their first silverware since 2022.
Palmer and Petrovic will be playing under Enzo Maresca next season after the Italian was announced as the club’s new head coach.
