Coco Gauff has revealed that all of her USA tennis teammates have left the Olympics village for a hotel.
Gauff moved into the athlete accommodation ahead of the Paris 2024 games and has been posting plenty of social media content.
She will play Australian Ajla Tomljanović in the first round on Sunday, and is already through to the second round of the doubles with Jessica Pegula.
However, the 20-year-old has been posting about life in the Olympic village – including the bathroom situation.
She revealed that Team USA had just two bathrooms between 10 girls staying there.
One person wrote under the social media clip: “I would go to a hotel.”
Gauff responded: “All the tennis girls moved to a hotel except me. So now it’s just five girls and two bathrooms.”
Not every athlete has to stay in the Olympic village, with many high profile names like LeBron James and Steph Curry staying off-site.
Team USA’s Olympic Village Director Daniel Smith told People: “If a sport decides not to stay in [the village], they have to find their own arrangements in terms of where they’re going to stay, and make their own hotel contracts.
“A challenge with that is that basically you’re outside of the bubble at that point and Paris 2024 won’t provide you transportation from your specific hotel.
“All of the meals, all of those additional pieces that come along with logistics that athletes in the Village get, you stay out and all of that is on you.”
Gauff had the honour of being Team USA’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony alongside NBA star James.
The US Open winner found out earlier this week that she would take the honour, however her parents already knew the news by the time she spoke to them.
“I thought I was gonna surprise them on the phone, and [my mom] was like, ‘Yeah, I already knew,’ ” Gauff said. “So I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s great.’ But I’m glad that they’ll be able to come and be here. I know they’re excited.”
“I was very emotional when I was talking to my mom about it,” Gauff said before the ceremony.
“I wanted to cry when I found out, but my whole team was there, so I went in the corner and did it.
“I truly am shocked, and I don’t take it for granted, and I am going to try and take it all in, and I know this will be a memory I will remember for the rest of my life.”
