Even while celebrating one of the biggest achievements of his career, Vincent Kompany showed that he is a class act.
Kompany is closing in on a move to take charge of Bayern Munich as their head coach following the exit of Thomas Tuchel.
The Belgian boss won four Premier League titles and six domestic cups during 11 hugely successful years with Man City.
However one of the biggest accolades in his collection was guiding Burnley back to the Premier League in 2023.
After securing two Belgian Pro League titles with Anderlecht, Kompany was appointed as head coach of the Clarets in the summer of 2022 and handed the immediate task of getting the club back into the top flight.
After 10 years under the leadership of Sean Dyche – a manager renowned for his defensive resilience and strong organisation skills – Kompany was tasked with rebranding the Clarets into an exciting, attack-minded side.

He certainly did that as he led his Burnley side to the Championship title in his first season with 87 goals scored and a staggering 101 points on the board.
In a moment that the Burnley fans will remember for a long time, the Clarets clinched the title following a 1-0 victory over their arch-rivals Blackburn at Ewood Park.
Celebrating their success, a scuffle broke out between both sets of players following the full-time whistle, leading Kompany to haul midfielder Jack Cork away from trouble.
He then had to intervene when Josh Brownhill taunted the Blackburn fans by repeatedly lifting an inflatable trophy in front of them, much to the home fans’ displeasure.
With Brownhill getting plenty of stick from the Blackburn fans, Kompany stepped in to pull the midfielder away before holding up his hand to apologise to their rivals’ supporters.
The Belgian manager knows the Bundesliga well having spent two seasons with Hamburg before completing his move to Man City in 2008.
His knowledge of German football – as well as his attack-minded brand of football and experience in the Champions League – has clearly ticked a lot of boxes for Bayern.
As part of his role, Kompany will be tasked with leading the club during their domestic clashes with rivals Borussia Dortmund, including performing in front of the famous Yellow Wall at the Westfalenstadion.
While there’s no questioning the 38-year-old’s desire to come out on top in such crunch fixtures, you can bet that Kompany will carry himself with the same class as he did that night in Ewood Park when he takes to the technical area in Dortmund.
