Chris Eubank Jr is reportedly now in talks for a potential all-British fight against a new foe after his clash with Conor Benn was called off.
It’s claimed that the 33-year-old has started negotiations for a showdown with Liam Smith, which could take place before the end of the year.
Eubank Jr was scheduled to face Benn in a 157lbs catchweight clash on October 8.
However, the fight was called off at the last minute following his opponent’s positive drugs tests.
Benn twice tested positive for clomifene and so the BBBofC prohibited the fight.
Promoters Eddie Hearn, who represents Benn, and Kalle Sauerland, who represents Eubank Jr, initially announced that the event was postponed.
However, there is no clear timeline as to when the disciplinary process and investigation surrounding the positive tests will take place.
As a result, it now appears as though Eubank Jr is moving on.
Instead of negotiating another fight with Hearn’s Matchroom on DAZN, he is said to be in talks with Ben Shalom’s BOXXER to compete on Sky.
According to the Star, they have proposed Eubank Jr fights Liam Smith on December 17.
It is also possible that the bout could be pushed back to 2023 though, with nothing finalised as yet and no contracts signed.
