Casemiro’s wife Anna Mariana has appeared to fire back at the Manchester United midfielder’s critics following his poor performance against Liverpool.
The 32-year-old was hauled off at half-time for academy graduate Toby Collyer with the Brazilian at fault for both of Luis Diaz’s goals in the Red Devils’ 3-0 defeat.
A picture later emerged of Casemiro seemingly departing Old Trafford during the break – though boss Erik ten Hag told talkSPORT that wasn’t the case.
The ex-Real Madrid star has struggled for form since his impressive opening season, which saw him score in the Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle.
Since last campaign, Casemiro has looked somewhat sluggish in midfield, leading to heavy criticism from fans and pundits.
And after losing possession which led to Liverpool’s two opening goals, he was public enemy number one in the eyes of United supporters.
Ten Hag has faced calls to leave the former Porto star out of the starting XI for a prolonged spell, with many stating the club should have sold him during the summer.
In the wake of social media backlash aimed at the player, his wife Anna Mariana Casemiro hit back at his haters with a cryptic post.
Taking to her Instagram story, the 35-year-old shared a snap of her husband’s huge trophy haul from his glittering career to her 523,000 followers.
Replica versions of Casemiro’s five Champions League titles could be seen, with his three LaLiga titles and the Copa America trophy among the prizes on display.
Anna Mariana then added to her story by uploading a picture of her beau celebrating with his teammates.
The caption read: “Always strong Casemiro.”
While Casemiro has the unwavering support from his wife, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted it is a ‘sad sight’ watching his slump in form.
The Sky Sports pundit said on commentary: “He’s had such a great career and won everything you can possibly win.
“And it is a sad sight seeing what he’s going through out there.”
Explaining his decision to take Casemiro off at the break, Ten Hag stated: “It is what the team needed.
“You know when you are 2-0 down against Liverpool you have to take more risks, it will be open.
“When you are losing you have to take more risks. I have to give compliments to the team. You have to keep fighting and sticking together.”
Asked for how Casemito took the substition, the Dutchman remarked: “You know the game and he knows the game.
“He will go on and we will go on. He’s a great player. We will continue this season to improve the team and the players.”
