Cardiff’s Ollie Tanner was left with a nasty cut on his leg after bizarrely getting stuck under an advertising board in the South Wales derby.
The Bluebirds netted an equaliser to make it 1-1 with 11 minutes to go against fierce rivals Swansea.
But as Cardiff’s stars wildly celebrated Callum Robinson’s goal with their jubilant travelling fans, the hoardings were accidentally broken under the pressure and fell onto the pitch.
And Tanner’s leg was caught in the crossfire.
Stewards and players all tried to lift the heavy board off Tanner’s right leg as he laid out on the floor in visible pain.
He got out in the end but required medical attention after badly grazing his leg.
After coming off briefly, Tanner returned to action and managed to play out the rest of the game.
Asked about the incident after the game, he joked to Sky Sports: “Yeah, I’ll take that if it means we score a goal, 100 per cent.”
That’s the second time this weekend an advertising board has fallen onto someone at game.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek rescued a Crystal Palace ball boy from underneath one during the Hammers’ goal celebrations on Saturday.
When asked about the incident at Cardiff, the Bluebirds’ assistant manager Omar Riza told talkSPORT: “He’s hurt his leg. He’s managed to continue but questions need to be asked about the way that occurred.
“To have the board fall down in the position, fans coming around the board, that needs to be looked at. But he’s fine.”
Liam Cullen netted an early opener for Swansea in a typically bad tempered game in South Wales.
Tanner played a role in stopping the Swans taking derby day bragging rights, putting in the cross for Robinson’s equaliser.
He has a habit of irritating Swansea, having scored in the 2-0 win over Swansea last September, too.
“I wanted to make an impact and that’s what I did today,” he told Sky Sports. “We want this to be a springboard, 100 per cent.
“The game came at a perfect time for us because there is no bigger game.”
After the advertising board chaos, Cardiff boss Erol Bulut was then shown a red card.
The Turkish manager had delayed proceedings near the end of the game by holding onto the ball.
Cardiff remain bottom of the table after their opening two losses and Sunday’s draw, whilst Swansea sit in eighth.
