FIFA have suspended Canada Women’s football head coach Beverly Priestman and her two assistants following their Olympic drone scandal.
And the defending Olympic gold medallists have also been docked six points to leave them on the cusp of a group stage exit.
French authorities detained a member of Canada’s support team earlier this week amid claims a drone was used to spy on their opponent’s training.
Assistant coach Jasmine Mander along with Joseph Lombardi, who is an unaccredited analyst with Canada Soccer, were sent home after New Zealand training sessions were allegedly recorded.
Priestman took responsibility and withdrew herself as head coach for the opening match against New Zealand, which they won 2-1.

However, FIFA have now taken action after disciplinary proceedings into the incident that marred the start of the Paris Olympics.
Canada Women have been deducted six points in Group A to leave them on minus three points.
As well as this, Priestman, Mander and Lombardi have been handed one-year suspensions from any football-related activity.
In FIFA’s statement, they said: “CSA was found responsible for failing to respect the applicable FIFA regulations in connection with its failure to ensure the compliance of its participating officials of the OFT with the prohibition on flying drones over any training sites.
