Bukayo Saka has joined an exclusive club of Premier League icons by starring in Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa.
The Gunners sealed a 2-0 victory at Villa Park on Saturday, with Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey helping to continue Mikel Arteta’s side’s winning start to the season.
The win means that Saka has now been on the winning side in 100 of his 171 Premier League games for Arsenal.
The winger is only the fourth player to seal a century of victories in the competition before the age of 23 in the Premier League’s history.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Manchester City’s current star Phil Foden have also achieved the feat.
Saka turns 23 on September 5, less than two weeks time.
Since his Arsenal first team debut in 2018, Saka has become a key player for the Gunners, scoring 59 goals and grabbing 54 assists in 228 games.
He made Premier League history when he came on for his debut in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Fulham on New Year’s Day in 2019.
At the age of 17, he became the first player born in 2001 to play in the Premier League.
Now, 100 league wins later, he’s written himself in the history books once again.
And Saka almost added to his goalscoring tally in the first half at Villa Park, only for Emiliano Martinez to brilliantly turn around his curling effort.
Though he did play a vital role in both of Arsenal’s second half goals in the Midlands, with Trossard firing the visitors into the lead in the 67th minute after reacting quickest to Saka’s deflected cross.
Just ten minutes later, he assisted Partey’s long-range effort as Arsenal made it two wins from as many Premier League games this season.
The result means that the north London giants have equalled an incredible Football League record.
Arsenal are now just the third team after Liverpool in 1982 and Manchester City in 2019 and 2021 to win 18 out of their first 20 matches of a calendar year.
And they exacted the perfect revenge on Villa, who are the only team to beat Arsenal this year.
Villa did the Premier League double over Arsenal last term, with the defeats ultimately seeing Arsenal miss out on the title by two points.
And Gooners will be hoping they’ll have plenty more to cheer about in the coming weeks with Brighton, Tottenham and Manchester City on the horizon.
