WWE starlet Montez Ford has volunteered his services for a UFC crossover as he looks to step from the squared circle to the Octagon.
Fans have been buzzing about the potential of potential cross promotional opportunities between WWE and UFC after the two were effectively merged under the TKO banner last year.
The likes of Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar and Ken Shamrock have all established themselves in WWE over the years after triumph in UFC, with Derrick Lewis the latest to hint he might follow suit.
39-year-old Lewis holds the UFC knockout record with 14 stoppages, and already has his eyes on glory in the wrestling world – having even picked out a potential finishing move.
There aren’t too many who’ve enjoyed too much success in making the jump in the opposite direction, however; CM Punk notably flopping in his Octagon exploits.
One man keen to buck that trend is the exceptional physical specimen that is Ford, who predominantly wrestles as part of the Street Profits tag team.
He’s also closely aligned with former MMA fighter Bobby Lashley, who boasts his own not-too-shabby record of 15 wins from 17 fights.
Ford, 33, is hardly lacking in potential UFC credentials, either. As well as being a naturally gifted athlete and, pound for pound, one of WWE’s most talent prospects, he’s also a former US Marine Corp.
The popular grappler says he’s well versed in ‘hand-to-hand combat’ and is very much ready to test the waters in UFC if a chance comes knocking.
“I was in the military, and I was also a brown, almost a black belt in the military as well,” he told Comic Book.
“Now not only do I have hand-to-hand combat experience, but I got life experience.
“I can throw hands with anybody here backstage… I don’t get tired unlike some people.
“I would do exceedingly well… I’m very motivated to do so. I even told [WWE President] Nick Khan, I said, ‘Hey, I know you’re doing all these crossovers, but if you need somebody to do another crossover and step to the octagon, I’ll be that guy.”
While WWE wrestlers and UFC fighters are known for talking their share of trash, Ford emphasised that he’s deadly serious about his ambitions, and wouldn’t be venturing into new territory to make up the numbers.
He added: “If anybody truly feels like, if I cross over, that they can just take me down easy because I’m not so used to this field in UFC or whatever it is, tell them to holler at me.
“Whether it’s light heavyweight, heavyweight, whichever they decide… all I’m saying is, I’m open.
“I’m not scared, I’m not nervous, I am open for the challenge.
“My point is, if anybody is ready, I’m ready. I’ve been ready since day one, and I got hands.”
The Street Profits gained their first major WWE recognition with a tremendous run in NXT before moving to the company’s ‘main’ roster.
They’ve since gone from strength to strength, winning both the Raw and SmackDown tag team champions.
Ford is married to fellow WWE sensation Bianca Belair, herself a hugely impressive athlete thanks to her efforts in the athletics world and in the professional wrestling industry.
