Bayern Munich and Spurs continue their pre-season build up with a high-profile friendly in Seoul on Saturday. 

The showdown is the first of two matches between two of Europe’s big hitters with a second fixture to follow in North London seven days later.

Bayern Munich put 14 past  FC Rottach-Egern in their first pre-season outing ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Fair to say the opposition wasn’t up to much, and this was confirmed when Vincent Kompany’s team were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Düren just four days later. 

The Spurs match will be a step up in preparation for Kompany and his team.

The former-Burnley manager will go into the match without the services of new signing Michael Olise, as well as Leroy Sane, Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and Alphonso Davies.

All are unavailable due to either injury or international commitments.

Also not available in Seoul is Harry Kane. The England skipper is still absent after his Euro 2024 exploits.

On a plus point for Bayern, Kompany does have Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala available to choose from. 

Germany’s loss was Bayern’s gain, as the trio were available sooner than expected after Germany’s early exit from Euro 2024.   

Fresh from further enhancing his reputation by dissecting England’s Euro 2024 performances on national TV, Ange Postecoglou has so far had the perfect pre-season with four wins from four.

Include the behind closed doors win over Cambridge, and it’s five from five for Big Ange and Spurs.

Their most recent match was a thrilling seven goal win over a K-League XI in Seoul on Wednesday. 

Spurs led 3-0 at half time thanks to an opener from Dejan Kulusevski and a brace from local hero Son Heung-min. 

That lead soon vanished as Spurs were pegged back to 3-2 after two goals in three minutes from Stanislav Iljutcenko. 

Spurs re-established control with a fourth from Will Lankshear. But in typical Tottenham fashion, they were left hanging on at the end after the K-League XI pulled it back to 3-4 at the 81-minute mark.

Okay, it was a friendly match, but it was so typically Spurs. And their fans will be looking for a vast improvement against the former German champions.

Munich will be stepping up their preparation for the Bundesliga. Spurs can expect a far tougher assignment than what they’ve encountered so far in their pre-season. Munich will be harder to beat than anything Spurs have faced to date.

The 32-year-old scored twice against the Korean hybrid side, and he also found the net in Spurs’ 3-2 win over Vissel Kobe in Japan last Saturday.

The fixture against Bayern Munich will be Spurs final match of their Far East tour. And Son will want to add to his pre-season tally when he faces the Germans in front of his adoring home-nation fans.

Son is 11/2 to score first and the same odds to score last. To score anytime, he is 6/4. That looks the more sensible bet.

Vincent Kompany didn’t focus too much on the defensive side of the game during his time at Burnley.

The former Manchester City defender learnt his trade from Pep Guardiola, and he is likely to implement his open style in Germany. 

After all, Bayern haven’t hired him to play defensive football.  

Ange Postecoglou is an attack minded manager. Some might argue he is too attacking for his own good.

He stuck to his football principles throughout his debut season at Spurs. No matter how much it cost Spurs at the end of the campaign. 

And judging by what’s been going on in Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies, the Aussie hasn’t moved away from his high intensity football philosophy. 

Expect goals in this one. My initial instinct was 3-1 Spurs or a 2-2 draw. 

A 3-1 win for Tottenham is 18/1. The odds on a 2-2 draw are 9/1.

We know Munich will be a step up in class, but they are probably a few days behind Spurs in their preparations. 

This will also be the third match Spurs have played in the region, while it will be Bayern’s first. The Germans may not be as well acclimatised as Spurs are.

Spurs will be confident and will want to continue their excellent goal scoring form.
