The backstage reaction from talent to several WWE stars being released during Friday’s (April 19) round of talent cuts has been revealed.
Talents let go by the company included Xia Li, Xyon Quinn, Veer Mahaan, Sanga and former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.
Per PWInsider (via WrestlePurists), there was “great sympathy” for Jinder Mahal and Xia Li specifically from talent within WWE.
The report noted that a few talents stated that Mahal was given nothing to do for years ahead of his promo segment with The Rock on the January 1 edition of Raw, and that the company never followed up despite the fact he maintained an impressive physique.
It was noted that a running joke between a few WWE names is that Mahal will be feuding with AEW President Tony Khan over the summer, due to their previous back-and-forth online.
With Xia Li, there was reportedly a feeling that she suffered due to her start/stop push and introductions in the Vince McMahon era.
The report stated that both Mahal and Li were extremely well liked backstage. It was also pointed out that WWE stars on the European tour only learned of these releases after waking up on Saturday morning due to timezone differences.
