Arsenal should spend this summer’s transfer budget on Newcastle stars Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
That’s according to talkSPORT’s Darren Bent, with Andy Goldstein also claiming the Gunners would have the ‘best possible chance’ of winning the Champions League with them.
talkSPORT understands Arsenal are one of a host of clubs keen on signing Isak from Newcastle, who want to renegotiate his contract to fend off interest.
It’s also been suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side are confident they can sign Guimaraes too, with both players key for the Magpies.
Arsenal already have a Premier League title-contending squad and Bent believes their summer transfer budget should be spent on the two Newcastle stars.
“You know what, I’d blow the whole transfer budget on them two. Got £150million to spend…” he said on Drive.
Bent was then asked where Guimaraes would play in the Arsenal side and replied: “Bruno, [Declan] Rice, [Martin] Odegaard [in midfield].”
Host Goldstein then revealed what the Gunners could achieve if they were able to sign the two targets in the summer, saying: “If you got those two, that’s a squad-and-a-half.
“Do you know what, I would go as far as to say if you get them two, keep everyone else and sort your left-back situation out, you’ll have I think your best possible chance of winning the Champions League the following season.”
Arsenal returned to the Champions League this season following a six-year absence from the competition.
The Gunners finished top of their group and beat Porto in the last 16 but fell to a 3-2 aggregate defeat against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
Isak and Guimaraes would certainly boost their chances though, with both players two of the best in their respective positions.
The former has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season, with 19 of those coming in the Premier League, and the latter is a consistent midfield rock for Newcastle.
Given their contributions, both could prove to be expensive signings should they switch Tyneside for north London.
Until the summer though, Arsenal still have the chance to win their first league title for 20 years as they sit top of the table.
They sit one point ahead of Manchester City with three games left to play but the reigning champions have a game in hand and will overtake them should they win it.
