New Liverpool boss Arne Slot has gone viral thanks to his unique kick-off method from his playing days.
The now former Feyenoord manager will replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout from June 1 as he takes on his first ever Premier League job.
But whilst he has big shoes to fill, Liverpool fans can expect a manager that thinks outside the box.
At least that’s what footage of Slot playing in a game suggests.
A section of a recent Daily Telegraph article on the new Reds boss went viral on X.
Slot apparently developed the habit of launching the ball high into the sky at kick-off during his days at Eredivisie club Zwolle, with ‘Dutch TV pundits mocking him mercilessly for it’.
However, it was apparently all part of the Dutchman’s plan to get his opponents to look into the sun and be put off at the start of the game.
Incredibly, his bizarre method led Zwolle to score seven times within the opening 30 seconds of their games.
Fans found a clip of Slot pulling off his tactic and have since gone crazy for it on social media.
“Wonder if we’ll see this kick-off routine under Slot next season…” one fan wrote on X alongside a laughing emoji.
A second simply said: “My manager.”
As a player, Slot was typically deployed as a no.10.
As well as playing at Zwolle, he also enjoyed spells at NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam. He retired in 2013.
As Slot’s kick-off routine was going viral, his predecessor Klopp was reduced to tears in a video posted by Liverpool on Wednesday, as fans bid farewell in special letters to him.
