Antonio Conte is expected to be banned from having any contact with his players before or during their crunch Champions League clash with Marseille next week.
The Italian was sent off late in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.
Conte was furious when Harry Kane’s late winner was controversially ruled out by VAR for offside.
Red cards in UEFA competitions carry an automatic one-match ban, but it means more than just a touchline ban.
He will not be permitted to make contact with his players before or during the fixture at Stade Velodrome and will have to sit in the stand.
Article 69 of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations states: “A team manager/coach or other team official who is sent off or suspended from carrying out his function may not be in the technical area or communicate direction with the team’s players.
“In addition, a team manager/coach or any other team official who is suspended from carrying out his function may not enter the dressing room or tunnel before or during the match.”
Tottenham will need a draw at Marseille in order to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League.
Further punishment could also come Conte’s way once the referee has handed in his match report of the Group D fixture.
Speaking to BT Sport after the match, he said: Manager Antonio Conte added: “I think the ball was in front of Kane and the goal is a goal. I don’t understand.
“It’s very difficult to comment on the decision. I think [VAR is] creating a lot of damage.
“A lot of injustice. I don’t like this type of situation.”
