The Buffalo Bills helped the Kansas City Chiefs draft Patrick Mahomes.
Seven years later, the Bills helped the Chiefs again in the NFL Draft, giving Mahomes a record-setting wide receiver in Texas’ Xavier Worthy and leaving fans stunned.
“This is why KC owns the Bills,” one fan tweeted.
“Don’t worry Bills fans, Falcons saved you from having the worst draft,” a second fan posted.
Atlanta drafting Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 overall after recently signing veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins was the most controversial decision of the night.
But the Falcons aren’t trying to get past the Chiefs in the AFC, and haven’t suffered supremely painful losses to Mahomes’ team in recent seasons.
That honor falls to Buffalo, who fell 27-24 to Kansas City in the Divisional Round last year, and was on the wrong end of a 42-36 overtime heartbreaker in 2021 that led to an NFL rule change.
“The Bills just lost to KC again,” a fan tweeted.
“Are the Bills totally rebuilding?” a second fan asked.
Buffalo traded No. 1 wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the rising Houston Texans earlier this offseason.
On Thursday, the Bills shipped the 28th pick in the first round to the Chiefs along with a fourth-round selection (No. 133).
Buffalo netted the final pick of the first round (No. 32) and a third rounder (No. 95).
But the Bills’ 32nd selection was then traded to Carolina, while the Chiefs used No. 28 for a wideout who set the NFL Combine record for the fastest 40-yard dash time (4.21 seconds) in history.
Mahomes already has Travis Kelce and Hollywood Brown as receiving options, while Andy Reid just signed a contract extension through 2028.
Worthy has already been compared to DeSean Jackson, who was one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL for Philadelphia.
The Chiefs have beaten the Bills in three of the last four playoffs.
Kansas City moved forward again in the first round of the draft, despite entering Thursday with the final pick and dealing with the fallout from wide receiver Rashee Rice’s off-the-field troubles.
It was another brilliant move by the reigning Super Bowl-champion Chiefs.
It was another Buffalo decision that could haunt Bills fans for years to come.
