AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland has fired back at WWE star Grayson Waller following his recent comments about wrestling in Jacksonville, Florida.
In a recent interview, WWE Tag Team Champion Grayson Waller spoke about WWE’s upcoming SmackDown episode set to take place in Jacksonville in on May 17.
Waller noted that he feels like it’s “been years since we’ve seen some really good wrestling in Jacksonville,” which many fans interpreted as a shot at AEW, which is based in the Floridian city.
Speaking with News4JAX, Swerve Strickland argued that AEW has the best wrestling in the world.
Firing back at Grayson Waller, Strickland said:
“Obviously (it was a shot at AEW). I love the subtleties. This person that said that, congratulations on their championship gold. Amazing. You were awesome when you were watching me in the seats when I was being a champion over where you were as well.
“Happy to see where you progressed to, but let’s be real, we are the best wrestling. Not just in Jacksonville, but anywhere. In the world. I stand on business on that.”
As referenced by Strickland, the former “Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott” held the NXT North American Championship for 104 days in 2021.
Swerve Strickland won the AEW World Championship from Samoa Joe at the April 21 Dynasty pay-per-view.
Grayson Waller and Austin Theory won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in a six-pack tag-team ladder match at WrestleMania 40. This title was replaced by the WWE Tag Team Championship on the April 19 edition of SmackDown.
