Adrien Broner lost his tooth en route to his third defeat in six fights against Blair Cobbs on Friday night.
Cobbs was declared the victor via unanimous decision with scores of 97-92, 96-93, and 96-93 in his favour at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Broner promised to dominate his adversary in the pre-fight build-up but the three-weight world champion looked like a shadow of his former self as he was outworked over the distance.
Following a cagey opener, both men began to open up in the second stanza.
Midway through the round, Cobbs sent Broner tumbling to the canvas with a crushing straight left straight that knocked the 34-year-old’s tooth out.
Before finding his way to his feet, Broner crawled around on his hands and knees trying to retrieve his tooth, which slipped through his gloves and onto the canvas.
When the action commenced, Broner attempted to force the action but his lack of activity as the fight wore on cost him in the end.
Speaking in the immediate aftermath of his victory, Cobbs said: “It wasn’t easy.
“Even after I tracked him on that special shot that hurt him, he got up, was resilient, and kept pressing forward.
“He even got a couple of good shots in. He got me with that right hand one time.
“Not too many times he landed, but he landed very well when he did. But Blair ‘The Flair’ prevails.
“I stay consistent on pressure with high, low, high, low. I make myself as unpredictable as possible.”
Cobbs then turned his attention to Ryan Garcia: “I saw something on Instagram.
“Ryan Garcia was rooting for ‘AB’ which was hurtful because I thought we were boys.
“But get your girl out of DMs. It’s my time. It’s Blair ‘The Flair’ Cobbs, the most exciting boxing man and the People’s Champion. Woo!”
Broner later revealed on Instagram that he also suffered a fractured elbow and torn shoulder during the fight.
Elsewhere on the bill, Michael Hunter defeated Cassius Chaney via a ten-round 100-90 whitewash in the co-main event to pick up the WBA ‘interim’ heavyweight trinket.
