Through much of the 1980s, the Calgary Flames battled tooth and nail with the Edmonton Oilers and almost always emerged as the second-best team of the two. But they were also many times the second-best team in the NHL.
The Oilers’ dominance definitely robbed the Flames of a couple of Stanley Cups, but they did manage to win the franchise’s only one in 1989. But they’ve had some very good teams in fits and spurts after that as well.
And that’s reflected in their Mount Rushmore, which contains the undisputed franchise icon and a guy who was ripped off of a Stanley Cup and a Hart Trophy.
On the list is the defenseman with one of the most feared slapshots in NHL history, an iconic goalie. And filling out the requirment that one of the players has to be on the current roster, one guy who has given them two years of everything he has.
