A video has emerged of Israel Adesanya appearing to spit at a driver during an apparent road rage incident.
‘The Last Style Bender’ recently returned home to New Zealand after falling to defeat against middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia last month.
Adesanya was unable to reclaim the 185lbs crown after tapping out in the fourth round to a face crank submission.
Three weeks removed from the fight, footage has been uploaded on social media of Adesanya getting into a heated altercation with a member of the public.
Stood next to his black McLaren 720S Spider, Adesanya can be heard shouting, ‘I get paid for this shit, f*** off,’ at a person wearing a hoodie and a pair of shorts.
Adesanya then flips the bird and calls the other driver a ‘b****’ as he opens the door to his car.
The MMA star proceeds to get increasingly angry as the man takes a step towards him and fires back inaudible verbal jabs of his own.
Adesnaya then tells the member of the public to ‘walk away’ and ‘go drive your beat up s***’, referring to his car.
But the man stands his ground and begins flexing his biceps as Adesanya shouts ‘I pray for you to try to me’ before appearing to spit at him.
The person filming the incident then drives off as Adesanya slams his car door shut, so it is unclear what happens next.
This incident comes after Adesanya avoided a conviction for drink driving earlier this year.
The 35-year-old was charged with driving a car on Wellesley Street, in central Auckland, with 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood in August 2023.
For reference, in New Zealand, the legal limit is 50 milligrams.
His reading put him at risk of a maximum jail term of three months.
But Adesanya got off with a six-month disqualification from driving and an order to pay $1500 toward a drunk driving charity.
At the time, Adesanya released a statement reading: “I want to apologise to the community, my family and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at dinner.
“I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test — the reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
“I am disappointed with my decision to drive. It was wrong.
“I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I do not think this behaviour is acceptable.”
At the time of writing, Adesanya is yet to comment on his road rage quarrel.
